RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT:
When it comes to prostate cancer treatment, understanding patient preferences can make all the difference. A study explored this by identifying three distinct "preference phenotypes" in men with prostate cancer. Using a pre-visit decision aid, researchers categorized patients based on their concerns, some prioritized recovery time, others balanced all factors, and some focused less on surgical risks or recovery. Interestingly, while these preferences highlighted unique trade-offs, they didn’t influence treatment decisions. Instead, physician recommendations were the primary driver of the chosen treatment path.
What does this mean for you? Your doctor may influence you more than you think! Make sure to do your own research and consider a second opinion before making a final decision on what to do about major health decisions like managing prostate cancer.
Q&A WITH DR. MALIK:
A Question from a subscriber: “I'm a 60+ y/o male with a fairly active sex life (about 3x a week). I often employ ED meds to enhance my performance (Cialis, Rugiet). I've found over the past few years that I don't always climax during intercourse, yet I always do when I masturbate. Is this typical as one ages?”
Answer:
Delayed ejaculation or orgasm can become more common with age because your nerve endings do get a bit less sensitive. However, if you're able to climax with masturbation it may be that you've developed habituation, or you've become used to the particular stimulation you use during masturbation and it's unlikely that a partner's orifice can necessarily replicate that. Try changing up your position, using a less firm grip during masturbation, or adding lubricant when you masturbate so you can get used to different types of stimulation and over time find it easier to climax with your partner.

WHAT’S NEW WITH DR. MALIK?
The holidays are upon us and I'm so excited my parents are coming to California for an extended stay to visit us. I'm an only child so I'm very close to my parents and they live in Buffalo, NY which makes seeing them in person a bit challenging, to say the least. When you grow up in a South Asian household your parents never stop treating you like a child, which can sometimes be annoying but other times great - they are always there to help you when you need them. My goal for their trip is not only to spend lots of quality time with many cups of chai but also to get my dad to start lifting weights in the gym. Incidentally, my mom is a pretty regular gym go-er with her friends and lifts weights regularly so I worry a little less about her. Hope you all have a WONDERFUL holiday season and keep checking Yourology, watching videos, and listening to podcasts
