RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT:

In this study, a 12-week app-based therapy program helped men with erectile dysfunction (ED) improve their condition and overall quality of life. The program included cardiovascular training, pelvic floor exercises, mindfulness, sensate focus exercises, and educational content all of which have been shown to improve erectile function. Using this app led to significant improvements compared to those who did not use the app. Men in the treatment group saw their erectile function improve by 4.5 points on a standard scale, while the control group saw almost no change. Quality of life also increased by 20.5 points for those using the app!

A Question from a subscriber: “Is Red Light Therapy an effective form of treatment for Benign Prostatic hyperplasia?

Answer:

Benign Prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH is a common condition affecting millions of men worldwide, causing symptoms such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, and nocturia. Traditionally this is treated with medications, procedures, or surgeries that help either shrink the prostate or relax it so that urine can flow better. Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy or photobiomodulation, can increase energy production within cells by activating mitochondria, however, most studies have been on skin conditions and hair loss because the light does not penetrate that deeply. There have been no studies on prostate health with red light therapy and I would venture to guess it would not penetrate deeply enough to have any impact on BPH or prostate symptoms.
