Eating This Could Help!

Welcome to Yourology with Dr. Malik – your weekly prescription for the latest medical updates, valuable insights, and freshest highlights straight from the frontlines of medicine!

Can eating nuts boost male fertility? A recent study looked at how nut consumption affects fertility in both men and women. The findings? Healthy men who ate at least 60g of nuts daily for three months saw improvements in sperm motility, vitality, and morphology—key factors for male fertility. However, nut intake didn’t seem to impact sperm concentration or fertility outcomes in couples undergoing assisted reproductive treatments.

So, if you're trying to optimize fertility, adding nuts to your diet could be a simple, natural way to improve sperm health. Given their rich nutritional profile, they might be an easy fertility-boosting snack!

This week, someone asked me “Over the last several months I have experienced itching in the vulva/urethra area. It is string some days and absent on others. I am 76 years old, this is the first time I ever had a problem like this. Can you give me some advice and info? What is it, and why? Should I see a gynecologist or urologist? Thank you for your assistance! or a urologist?”. Here’s the answer to that, without an examination I can't be sure, but it sounds like you may be experiencing symptoms related to the genitourinary syndrome of menopause, which is common in women postmenopause due to decreased estrogen levels. The decreased levels cause changes in the vulvar tissues, making them thinner, potentially more fragile and less lubricated. This can lead to symptoms like vulvar or urethral itching, dryness, and discomfort. Visiting either a gynecologist or a urologist would be helpful for personalized evaluation and management plan. Also, vaginal estrogen treatments are a common and effective approach for addressing these symptoms, as they can help restore tissue health and reduce symptoms like itching. These are very safe and do not have the same risks as oral estrogen therapy. You can also try an over the counter vaginal moisturizer that might help you feel better in the short term.

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO LATELY

This week, I attended two events (Who AM I?!). One was the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel Awards Gala, and the other was a celebration of International Women's Day with Figs Scrubs. Both events were fun, and I got to reconnect with old friends and make some new acquaintances. It's always fun to get out and enjoy a great evening, but my favorite activity is cuddling with my kids on the couch while we watch a movie or TV episode. I'm doing my best to cherish these moments before they go to college and start living their own lives.

Hope you're all having a wonderful week as well!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MY CHANNEL

I dove into the topic of penile traction devices and whether they can really make a difference in penile length and treat some conditions.

Quote: "The results are pretty modest and, again, they require consistent use."

Here are some quick takeaways:

  • Penile traction devices might help with conditions like Peyronie's disease and can potentially increase length over time, but they require consistency.

  • They're generally safe but might cause temporary side effects like numbness, pain, or bruising if not used correctly.

  • Always remember, more tension isn’t better. Follow guidelines and listen to your body.

These devices are a commitment – the results won’t be overnight, but they show promise without surgery. Curious to learn more about how they work and which might be right for you? Dive into the full episode!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MY PODCAST

I had an awesome chat with Dr. Allan Bacon about fitness, nutrition, and how to keep things exciting in the bedroom. Dr. Bacon is a wealth of knowledge! For instance, he says “If you want to be better at sex, go thrust. Essentially, we’re prescribing people to go have sex, which is a great thing.”

Here’s what stood out from our conversation:

  • Regular strength training and engaging in the activity itself enhance performance and stamina in the bedroom.

  • He debunks common myths about nutrition, like the misconception that all fats are bad.

  • Building habits around whole, minimally processed foods while allowing some indulgence can be key to long-term health and fitness goals.

Tune in and listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or here to hear Dr. Bacon’s insights on how mastering the basics can cut through the noise and make a major difference in your health, and check why listeners are saying “i luv intelligent conversations. so tired of gym bros "influencers" peddling crap. ty”
