Are You Overpaying for Medications? Discover Tools to Save

Discover four online tools designed to help patients find more affordable options for their prescription medications!

Welcome to Yourology with Dr. Malik – your weekly prescription for the latest medical updates, valuable insights, and freshest highlights straight from the frontlines of medicine!

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT:

Did you know you could be spending more money than you need on prescriptions? I found a study that reviews four online tools to help patients find more affordable options for their prescription medications.

These are:

  • Medicare Part D Plan Finder: For patients with Medicare insurance - this lets them compare different drug plans annually to find the best coverage and savings for their prescriptions.

  • GoodRx: GoodRx can be accessed online and it provides discount coupons and price comparisons, which can significantly reduce medication costs even without insurance.

  • Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company: This is an online pharmacy that has deep discounts on generic medications. The company offers medications at a transparent, lower cost without the usual markups. All you have to do is sign up for an account and tell your doctor to send your prescriptiosn there. Shipped to your house for only $5! I use this all the time for my patients and they get 90 pills of tadalafil for only $12!

  • Amazon RxPass: Patients who take three or more chronic medications can benefit from Amazon RxPass. This subscription service provides medications at a reduced cost.

Try it out and let me know what you think!

Q&A WITH DR. MALIK:

A Question from a subscriber: “I'm in my early 60's and still have regular sex. I've noticed for the past few years that I don't always ejaculate. My wife thinks that means I'm not enjoying myself, but believe me, I am. Is this typical as a man gets older?

Answer:

This is likely because your force of ejaculation has decreased due to weakening of the pelvic floor, an enlarged prostate, or certain medications that can relax the bladder neck and cause what we call retrograde ejaculation. One of those most common ones is tamsulosin or other similar medications for the prostate. Nothing to worry about as long as you both are still enjoying sex and you're not trying to conceive!

How Big do Women Like it? Does Size Really Matter? | Urologist breaks down the Science

Episode Highlights:

  • Anatomical Insights: Learn the average sizes and whether bigger really means better.

  • Women's Opinions: Discover what women actually say about the importance of size.

  • Scientific Studies: Uncover fascinating findings about our ability (or inability) to estimate size.

  • Focus on Pleasure: Practical advice to enhance intimacy and enjoyment in your relationships.

I break down the science and debunk myths, so you can stop stressing and start enjoying. I also emphasize the importance of communication and understanding between partners, rather than focusing on physical proportions.

Key Takeaways:

  • Most women achieve orgasm through clitoral stimulation, not vaginal penetration.

  • The average vaginal length during arousal can comfortably accommodate the average penile size.

  • Surveys indicate that 80% of women do not consider size important.

  • Both men and women tend to overestimate the length of a penis, making average sizes seem larger.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PODCAST:

Can Penile Implants Save Your Sex Life? | Penile Dysfunction Treatment ft. Dr. Jonathan Clavell.

Episode Highlights:

  • Penile Implants: Devices to help achieve an erection, with options like malleable and inflatable implants.

  • Preparation and Care: Use vacuum devices or injections before surgery; limit vacuum use to 5 minutes twice daily. Start cycling the implant 4-5 weeks post-surgery.

  • Post-Surgery Care: Manage swelling with ice packs, tight underwear, and supplements. Report any unusual symptoms to your surgeon.

  • Measuring Success: Accurate measurements from the pubic bone to the penis tip are crucial. Implants offer higher satisfaction rates compared to other ED treatments.

  • Expectations and Communication: Open dialogue with your partner is key. Implants often lead to high satisfaction rates as they mimic natural erections.

  • Personalized Care: The Vitality Urology Institute, led by Dr. Clavell, emphasizes personalized care, focusing on sexual health, bladder health, hormone balance, and pelvic pain management.
